The Ventura Film Festival exists as a multi-genre global film festival that raises awareness for ecological concerns including terrestrial and aquatic preservation and renewal, through an annual film festival and complementary events. The Ventura Film Festival was founded in 2004 and has exhibited numerous cinematic works, generally exceeding 200 films per summer season, and has generated excitement within the worldwide filmmaking community. Significant highlights have been welcoming acclaimed filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the pioneering world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend and surf legend Ian Cairns, 4x world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA combatant Fabio Leopoldo, and the golden anniversary celebration of West Side Story, which featured welcoming the complete Oscar-winning ensemble of West Side Story, including Academy Award winner/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris and legendary actor Golden Globe winner/Oscar-nominated Russ Tamblyn. The founder and executive director of the Ventura Film Festival was privileged to participate, together with many of Hollywood's biggest stars, in the 50th Anniversary of West Side Story and Hollywood's prestigious footprint/handprint ceremony honoring Oscar winners Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, along with Golden Globe award winner Russ Tamblyn at the famous Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This gathering also operated as the official BluRay premiere by Fox and MGM of the classic West Side Story, which is widely considered by critics and fans to be the finest musical of all time.
